Century of happiness
KATHLEEN Bowrey is 100 and still has one of those contagious smiles that brighten a room.
She walked into her birthday function at Yaralla Place Aged Care Facility yesterday and looked about the room.
She flashed a cute-as-button grin and instantly, it spread.
She sat down in the biggest seat, looked at her big birthday cake and clapped her hands together like a child at Christmas.
There was no need for big speeches, that smile, her smile, revealed all.
Her niece Del Nicholls said it was something "aunty" carried through life - that she must have, to survive after doctors lost hope.
"She was born a twin and was so small that they thought she wasn't going to last more than a few days," Del said.
Kath proved them wrong and lived an amazing life - together with her husband Les.
She has been a Hervey Bay resident for about 50 years and was involved in charity work.
Kath said she had always made the most of her opportunities.
