Woman hacked to death in ‘axe murderer’ bloodbath

One woman was killed and another was critically hurt by a suspected axe murderer inside a Brooklyn apartment - all while a little girl was in another room, police and law enforcement sources said.

The New York Post reports that the woman, 21, called an Uber to a building within New York City Housing Authority's Bushwick Houses, and got into the waiting car shortly before 1:30am, police sources said.

The driver noticed she was bleeding heavily and called 911.

When medics arrived, she told them there was a dead body in her eighth-floor apartment and her child was also inside, the sources said.

Police searched the home and found an unidentified woman lying on the living room floor - partially decapitated, with her fingers severed and stab wounds throughout her head and body, police sources said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the woman who was killed, who is in her 20s, does not live at the apartment and was just visiting when the attack occurred, sources said.

The four-year-old girl, the 21-year-old woman's daughter, was in a back bedroom, unharmed, the sources said.

Investigators later found what they believe to be the murder weapon - an axe - inside a trash compactor in the building, the sources said.

The woman was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Centre in critical but stable condition. Her daughter was taken to Woodhull Medical Centre for evaluation, police said.

Police are still working to determine who is responsible for the carnage.
